Gardening Is Not a Too Well-Kept Secret Passion PROJECTS AND SERVICES The Garden Club of Millsboro has a wide range of projects and services to serve our members and our community. MEMBERS The Garden Club of Millsboro is committed to expanding and increasing the horticultural knowledge and skills of our novice and experienced gardener members so that they may enhance the beauty of their own gardens.  We plan horticultural educational enrichment programs for our monthly general meetings.  Our members are able to avail themselves of the information and advice from our knowledgeable Master Gardener members at our monthly general meetings.  The Master Gardeners in our group address those issues that are of the utmost importance to our members.  In addition, our members are able to take advantage of the horticultural educational programs given nearby by the Delaware Master Gardeners at the Research and Education Center of the Sussex County Cooperative Extension Office of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the Georgetown Campus of the University of Delaware.  Also, our members are able to take advantage of the horticultural educational programs given nearby by the East Coast Garden Center.  The Cooperative Extension Office and the East Coast Garden Center offer strong and varied programs to meet the interests of our members.  Lastly, we sponsor gardening field trips to observe exhibit gardens that are within reasonable driving distance from Millsboro. The Garden Club of Millsboro is committed to creating an atmosphere of good fellowship and fun among our members who share a deep interest in gardening. COMMUNITY The Garden Club of Millsboro is committed to improving the quality of life of the community in which we live and work and play.  To this end, our members voluntarily planned, installed evergreens and flowers, and maintain over 50 planters to enhance the streetscape of Millsboro.  We voluntarily designed, installed evergreens and flowers, and maintain shrub beds:  at the band stand, island and flag pole in Cupola Park and at the “Welcome to Millsboro” town sign.  Our members voluntarily change the seasonal plants in the town planters and shrub beds.  Our members voluntarily provide horticultural educational events at town sponsored events.  Our Special Projects Committee voluntarily decorate the planters and shrub beds for holidays, such as, Christmas, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day. FUNDRAISING Fundraising, though not horticultural in nature, is a vital function of the Garden Club of Millsboro.  We are able to perform our community service projects through the financial support of the Town Council of Millsboro, State of Delaware, Delaware Department of Transportation, local business owners and community at large.  Our Fundraising Committee prepares proposals, which compete with other worthy organizations, for local and state funding grants.  Our proposals have been accepted for funds available for such grants.  We receive generous donations from our local business owners and the community at large.  Recently, we received a great response from them for our Sponsor a Flower Pot fundraising project. (Click here to see a list of donors and planter sponsors.) Twice a year a local restaurant donates a portion of its receipts to fund our community service projects.  In addition, we provide and sell snacks and beverages at town sponsored events.  Our Fundraising Committee is vigilant to tap these and other sources of revenue to financially support our community service projects. APPRECIATION DINNER In 2011, we sponsored our first Annual Men’s Auxiliary Thank You Dinner for their constant unwavering support.  They give us moral support, and financial support and physical support—when the job gets too heavy.                   Seasonal Pot Welcome to Millsboro Route 24 Bridge Cupola Park Island Bench
