The Garden Club of Millsboro is a nonprofit organization, independent of other gardening
organizations, dedicated to the enrichment of fellow gardeners and service to our
community. Our members enjoy a shared interest in gardening. Our members have a desire
to learn more about horticulture in a wide range of gardening interests, such as, landscape
design, plant care, container gardening, kitchen gardening, and house plants. The
educational aspects of our activities, events, field trips, meetings, programs and projects are
directed toward educating gardeners and the general public about a variety of topics, such
as, landscape/streetscape design and maintenance, horticulture of plant care, insects, pests,
and weed control. Our members enjoy the sheer pleasure of gardening—both the labor and
fruits of their labor. Our members are novices and experienced gardeners interested in
enhancing the beauty of their own gardens, as well as, volunteering to improve the gardens
in and around the public areas of Millsboro, Delaware.

HISTORY
The Garden Club of Millsboro was founded by Denise Emery, Carol Jarboe, Marjorie
Lewis, Emily Peterson, Diane Potter and Donna Rogers. The first meeting was held on
May 1, 2007. The first project was to meet with the town representatives and discuss the
possibility of our group taking on the task of setting out planters around town. Many of the
group donated plants which were installed in the town’s used planters. St Mark’s Church
generously let the group fill the planters at their facility. Then, the planters were placed
around Main Street and Washington Street in Millsboro. The project was so successful that
we expanded the streetscape to include new and more planters around town and the Route
24 bridge, design and install plant material at the band stand, island, and the flag pole in
Cupola Park, and design and install plant material around the “Welcome to Millsboro” town
sign.
